Bobbi Brown Pro Studio, Soho
When I heard that the first ever Bobbi Brown Pro Studio was opening in Soho, I was very excited. How lucky that Bobbi Brown picked the UK for this! Having recently rediscovered the brand through Hannah Martin on YouTube. She recently did a video featuring the new Crushed Lip Colour that changed my view on lipstick.
I'm not generally a fan of lipstick as I don't usually like the feel on my lips, but this new product sounded right up my street (more on that later)
When it came to choosing the colour, despite watching Hannah swatch every colour, I still couldn't decide what to go for! So, I decided it was a good excuse to visit the new Pro Studio in Soho to try them out for myself.
The store itself is right in the heart of Soho, between Oxford Street & Broadwick Street. I'd had a look on the website and had seen they offer a number of free appointments to help you find the right products for you, so I decided to give one a try. As it was particularly the Crushed lip colour I was interested in, I booked the How To: Find Your Perfect Lip appointment which promised to show me how to find my perfect lip colour.
I arrived a few minutes early for my appointment and was greeted warmly by the staff. I had my camera with me, and asked if I could take a few pics for this post. The lady I saw couldn't' have been more helpful and showed me the whole studio. Surrounded by so many products, I wish I had them all on my dressing table. That would be there dream!
She took me downstairs, where there is private make up studio, ideal for brides, as well as a mini theatre were sessions will happen with some of the Bobbi Brown Pros. I actually saw the studio on a Facebook Live recently so it's clearly already being put to very good use. I believe there will be masterclasses and events held in the studio itself too so keep an eye on the Bobbi Brown website or follow the studio on Instagram.
My appointment was with Elena who was lovely! She made sure to understand exactly what I was looking for, she was very friendly and suggested colours that would help me push beyond my comfort zone whilst making sure she did not push me too far. She got the balance just right, I would definitely recommend making an appointment, you won't be disappointed.
what's this Crushed Lip Colour all about?
The look of a lipstick meets the feel of a balm for a very wearable lip. Loaded with crushed pigments and lip-loving ingredients, it's the ultimate swipe and go formula.
Rich in Vitamins E and C and beeswax, the balmy formula glides on comfortably with a satin matte finish that leaves lips hydrated and kissably soft. Plus, it won't feather or fade for crush-worthy colour that lasts all day.
I told Elena it was the Crushed lip colour that appealed and that I wanted to find a colour I could wear every day, as well as something to make a bit more of a statement.
We chatted about the type of colours I prefer and that, for someone like me, a bright red might be a step too far at this stage. One step at a time. Elena first swatched some of the colours on my hand so we could gauge how they would look on my skin tone. From that we chose 4 to actually try on my lips - Babe, Bitten, Punch & Crush.
I learnt that it's just as important to prep your lips before applying lip colour. Bobbi Brown's lip balm, whilst perhaps a little bit indulgent, is so nice I just had to buy some of that too.
After careful consideration, and with guidance from Elena, I opted for Bitten for that every day look and Punch for that occasion when a pop of colour is needed. The great thing with this lip colour is it looks great as both a strong colour or blotted for a more muted look. for those days when a stronger colour is in order,
I did buy the lip pencils to match, just in case. I think the pencil works particularly well for me with Punch as it's a stronger colour and my lip line is not naturally well defined.
what did I buy?
If you're a regular reader, you might have seen my everyday makeup favourites a few weeks where I shared my struggle with dark under-eye circles. Elena showed me this Full Coverage Touch Up Brush, £26 when she applied some more under eye concealer for me (I only got back from holiday the day before my visit and the jet lag was really kicking in)! The concealer application under my eyes was great with this brush, so I bought that too. Oops!
I enjoyed my experience so much, I actually rebooked to see Elena again later this month. I'm hoping to find the ultimate no make up, make up look with the HowTo: Do the nude look.
