Christmas Tree, oh Christmas Tree
It's December 1st on Friday so Advent & the run up to Christmas officially starts! I wanted the tree to be up for the beginning of it all and it's easier to do it at the weekend, so I put White Christmas on the TV and got to it.
As a big fan of Christmas, I do love a real Christmas tree, the smell especially but I really don't like the mess it leaves behind! Last year, when visiting a friend's house, I commented on how good she was for picking up the dropped needles from her tree. She looked at me and laughed. The tree was not real and I had no idea!! I decided the 'fake' tree was so good I would save myself the hassle of constantly cleaning up needless, plus avoiding the really annoying bit of getting the half dead tree out of the house. (I'm still finding needles from last year stuck between the windows & shutters!)
The tree comes from Balsam Hill who really are the masters of artificial Christmas trees. They have a huge range and you can sort my how realistic they are. This one is a European classic 6' Norway Spruce. It's narrow which I wanted but still has the height. I opted for an unlit tree as I like putting the lights on myself but you can opt for a pre-lit version too.
The Norway Spruce (Picea abies) is native to Europe and has always been favoured for its attractive shape as a Christmas tree. They've carefully mimicked the shape of a cultivated Norway Spruce to provide the quintessential Christmas tree shape while creating a gentle "in and out" branch structure which is perfect for displaying your favourite ornaments. All the branches use TRUE NEEDLE™ technology to add strength and lifelike detail whilst the branch structure is carefully crafted to provide a gorgeous silhouette. Each of the centre stems of the gorgeous branches are reinforced with steel to provide excellent strength to display your ornaments.
The tree comes really well packaged and even has a sturdy bag to live in when it goes back in the loft! Balsam Hill give you some handy gloves that are really useful when it comes to folding out all the branches. The stand is sturdy and easy to put together and the pieces all fit together really smoothly. My tree is 6' and comes in 3 pieces. The bit that took the time, was folding out all the branches but it's worth spending some time to get it to look its best and as realistic as possible.
Because an artificial tree does not give you the smell, I bought the Fir Tree diffuser from The White Company so I get the best of both worlds! (they have 20% if you use the code AS313)
It's not the cheapest tree around but it is by far the most realistic one I have seen. I bought mine in the post-Christmas sales last year for around £150 which was over half price!! They have some black Friday offers on this weekend so do have a look. Whilst it seems a lot, when you think about it, a real tree is around £60 each year so it's not long before you're actually saving yourself money. And no messy needles to clear up!!
All the decorations I actually bought last year from The White Company - the sparkly stars and hearts are still available and they have some very similar glass baubles. I always go for warm white lights rather than the bright white ones as I just prefer the glow they give - the light is more like candlelight which is just a bit softer. I really love how the tree looks this year! One of the wreaths I featured last week will be going on the front door, just not until 1st December.
And for a bit of fun, this Elf who joins Father Christmas and a Reindeer on the banisters. The Elf was a gift from my Mum to make sure I'm good. Doesn't matter how old I am apparently, he's always watching!
