In the second in My Beauty Edit series, this week, it's my concealer edit. Is it worth spending money on concealer or can you get away with a more purse friendly option?
The most critical thing with make-up, and concealer in particular, is skincare preparation. I always make a special effort to prep the under-eye area with a hydrating eye cream which refreshes the skin, plumps away fine lines and creates a smooth canvas for concealer.
I find I mainly use concealer for under my eyes, but of course these are all great for any type of concealing, you just might find you want a slightly lighter colour than your natural skin tone under your eyes to really help brighten.
But which concealer to buy?
My Shade : Peach Bisque
On those days when I'm feeling particularly tired and the bags under my eyes are especially pronounced, I always use this before applying my concealer. it really helps to even out the colour to allow the concealer to really work its magic. As the name suggests, the corrector brightens and covers discolouration under the eyes utilising a pink- or peach-based formula to neutralise undereye darkness. If you're anything like me and have very dark under eye circles or want extra coverage, this is the product for you!
It's waterproof, sweat and humidity-resistant, long-wearing formula, boasts a uniquely creamy-smooth texture for perfectly smooth coverage that's easy to blend and won't crease. It's also infused with skin conditioners to protect the delicate under eye area and available in 16 skin-tone-correct correcting shades, so you shouldn't have trouble finding your shade.
My Shade : Warm Beige
If you're looking for a full-coverage under eye concealer with a weightless feel and natural skin finish, this is the product for you. It's concentrated, highly-pigmented coverage that visibly brightens stubborn dark circles and softens hollows and tired lines in an instant, no matter how much (or how little) sleep you've managed to get.
In one swipe, this highly-pigmented concealer has really good coverage and helps brighten those pesky dark circles. I find the best way to apply this is with a brush followed by my fingers to make sure the last bits are fully blended so there's no sign of anything sitting in the creases! As you would expect, it has a long-wear formula, is water/sweat/humidity-resistant so expect all-day coverage that won't crease or settle.
My Shade : Custard
This is a new discovery for me having seen lots of bloggers raving about it, I decided I wanted to give it a go too. I found this travel version on the Space NK website so thought I'd try it out before buying the full-size product. It's also really handy for chucking in your handbag as it's nice & small.
The consistency is really smooth and it's not drying in any way. It has a luxurious texture and luminous finish which evens skin with lightweight medium to high buildable coverage. Enriched with hydrating, multi-action skincare benefits and light diffusing technology, it creates a softer, smoother complexion while instantly obscuring imperfections and diminishing fine lines and signs of fatigue. Who wouldn't love that!
The mini only came in 2 colours - Custard & Vanilla - and I opted for Custard which is actually a pretty good match for me, but the full range comes in a whopping 22 shades so there's bound to be the right one for you.
My Shade : Fair 01
This is loved by bloggers everywhere, especially Zoella which is how I discovered it in the first place. It's an absolute bargain at only £3.99 you can't really go wrong. But does such an inexpensive product still do a good job?
It has a long-wear formula that claims to last 16 hours. I often use my concealer on my eye lid as a base and this is a particularly good one for that. It gives a great base for eyeshadow to cling to which means it last longer. I have this in several colours but the one I reach for the most is the lightest shade (Fair 01) which I use under my eyes as it provides great coverage and lots of brightening.
So, is it worth spending lots on concealer? I'm not sure it is. I love all the products I've mentioned but I don't have a favourite. There is a significant price difference with Nars the priciest at £24 and Collection the best value at £3.99!! There's an awful lot I could do with that £20 so it's definitely made me think but for now, I'm happy using the products I have but let's see how I feel once I need to buy a new one!
Next in this series will be my blusher edit so keep your eyes out for that in the next few weeks.
Thanks for reading. Until next Sunday....

P.S. How beautiful is this card from Chanel? I was lucky enough to receive it last year and have kept it on my bookshelf ever since. The tweed & pearls are a classic Chanel look and such a lovely touch.
