Beauty Must Haves : Everyday Make Up Faves
Over the last year, I have really got into make-up; I love trying new products and change my favourites quite a lot, much to my Mother's frustration. She's usually just got used to a product I've told her about before I'm on to the next!
My make-up collection is pretty sizeable but I just don't have the time or patience to do anything long & complicated day to day. So, I have a few products that I use to do my everyday makeup, which takes no more than 5-10 mins, and thought I would share my current go to products with you.
Firstly, it's so important to start with clean & moisturised skin so I always make sure I have completed my morning skincare routine before I start with my make up (note to self - do a blog post on my morning skincare routine!)
I watch a lot of YouTube videos, particularly beauty bloggers (blog post on my favourite bloggers coming soon), and all of them have been talking about IT Cosmetics CC cream as the holy grail base for every day. They can't all be wrong so I decided to give it a go. Don't be fooled by the name CC cream, it's actually pretty high coverage, and it's really buildable which I like. I use the colour medium and tend to use a reasonably small amount, applied with my Real Techniques Expert Face Brush. It's really buildable so really easy to get a fuller coverage if it's one of those days!
If, like me you can always do with more sleep then you will know it shows on our face! I really suffer with dark circles under my eyes so I'm always looking for a product that can disguise them. I was recently watching Hannah Martin on YouTube who is a Bobbi Brown pro make-up artist and she was talking about the products she uses on her dark circles so I thought I would give them a go.
The first is Bobbi Brown's Corrector which is my new favourite product! A wakeup call for tired eyes—this essential corrector brightens and covers discolouration under the eyes utilising a pink- or peach-based formula to neutralise under eye darkness. I use the colour Bisque and find it makes such a difference. I mix up how I apply it - sometimes I use a brush, sometimes a mini real techniques sponge sometimes just my finger. I find the warmth of my finger really helps my skin absorb the product. I don't tend to wear eyeshadow on a day to day basis so I blend it up to my eyelid as well to cover any darkness.
In her video, Hannah also talked about the new Bobbi Brown Full Coverage Concealer which purports to do the whole job for you without the need for any other products. I can see on a day when I'm having a good "under eye dark circles" day it would do the job on its own but most days I use both products. I'm currently using Beige which is a good match for my skin but I would quite like to try a lighter colour. When I'm looking to add some brightness under my eye, I generally reach for Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer in Fair - it's a bargain and does a great job!!
I don't think I could walk out of the house without applying bronzer. The bigger the product the easier I find it to apply, and this Marc Jacobs O!Mega Bronze in Perfect Tan is the biggest one I have found. This super-sized bronzer instantly and universally bronzes & beautifies with the touch of a brush. This oversized compact is perfect for both face and all-over body bronzing - the mirror is huge - and it gives a radiant-matte finish that looks flawless not shiny
I love a highlighter but on a day to day basis I sometimes find it a bit much so I look for a blusher that has a bit of shimmer in it. NARS Orgasm is a bit of a cult product which delivers both gorgeous colour with just a hint of shimmer making it my go to blush and looks good on all skin tones.
I have blue eyes and I generally feel most comfortable focussing my make up on my eyes. I've never been able to find a lipstick that I really love as I just always think it looks weird - maybe it's just something I need to get used to!! Mascara has to be one of my holy grail make up products but I've realised I'm very fussy with the type of brush it has. I hate those rubbery silicone brushes but LOVE a big bristly brush. The bigger the better!!
If you read my Evening Skin Care Routine post you will know I have been using Lilash for the last 9 months. I'm lucky to already have pretty long eyelashes but this stuff makes all the difference which you can see for yourself in the photo below. Add to it a fab mascara and you have the lashes of dreams!
I have been loving the YSL volume effect faux cils and have been using it very happily for the last 6 months. But when I received my Bobbi Brown concealers, there was a mini version of Bobbi Brown Eye Opening Mascara in the parcel. Good bit if sampling as it worked, I tried the mascara and I loved it so much I bought a full size one! I love the big fat brush and it really makes my eye lashes super long & thick too. On my bottom lashes, I always use a drier product to prevent the dreaded panda eye. I find the Clinique Bottom Lash mascara the best for this as it's a really small brush so you can be really precise.
I love a kohl eyeliner but I'm so good at liquid eye liner. I use the Charlotte Tilbury Rock & Kohl liner in Barbarella Brown as it's really soft and goes on like a gel. I find if I follow the line along the base of my eyelashes, both top & bottom, it really frames my eye and stays put all day.
Until a few years ago I never put anything on my eyebrows but I learnt the importance of it to really frame your eye. I have tried various different products and do sometimes use a pencil but my favourite & go to product is the Anastasia Beverley Hills Brown Powder Duo in Ash Brown. I find this colour perfect as it's not too warm, a cool tone seems to work best for me. I finish them off with Benefit Ready, Set Brow in clear to hold them in place all day long.
I use a whole variety of make-up tools & brushes and I shared all my favourites in the first post in my series on Beauty Must Haves so you can check that out if you're interested in finding out more!
I already told you I'm not a big lipstick person but I love a balm on my lips as it makes them feel soft and gives a nice bit of sheen. Clarins Lip Perfector in 05 is the product I reach for most. It adds just a little bit of colour and makes my lips really soft with absolutely no stickiness.
Finally, one of my new discoveries and something I now always keep in my handbag is Bobbi Brown's Pot Rouge which is a great product for both cheeks & lips. When you've been out all day and look in the mirror and don't like what you see this product does a great job at lifting your complexion. I apply it with my finger tip so a quick dab on my cheeks and a sweep across the lips adds that little bit of colour that I need.
This product comes in so many colours so you're sure to find the one that suits you best. I have Pretty Powerful III which is limited edition and for every product sold in the UK, the full RRP less VAT will be donated to Smart Works, a UK charity that gives high quality interview clothes, styling advice and interview training to out-of-work women on low incomes. A nice product that's doing good in the world too. Winner!
