New Year Positivity
2018 is going to be your year
A bit of a different post this week as I reflect on 2017, it's ups & downs and my goals for the new year ahead. 2017 wasn't the easiest year but I'm going into the new year feeling positive and that anything is possible. I'm not one for New Year's Resolutions, so my list is mostly about mind-set and things I want to do. Whilst these are things I want to focus on, hopefully there will be some that inspire you and give you some ideas for what you want to do in 2018. Think about what's important for you and go from there.
Here are mine.
Look After Myself
Now I know that's a bit of a cliché, but I think this year it's truer than ever. I have not been as dedicated to my fitness recently and it shows in my clothes which I don't like. Health kick starts tomorrow! I'm sure we've all overindulges over the Christmas break but now's the time to get things back on track. I had a lot of success with MyFitnessPal before so I'm going to use that again.
I like the tracking options and the fact that it syncs with my watch to monitor my steps means the more I move the more I can eat. That makes me happy. I'm going to continue with Yoga as that has helped me a lot over the last few months and get back to walking. I'm' not a runner but I love to walk and you get very similar benefits as long as you walk at pace! I'm doing the 20km Winter Walk in a couple of weekend's time and have a couple more planned later in the year. Action Challenge have some great events planned and you can run, jog or walk most of them so it's really up to you.
I started a little early by having a massage at home yesterday. I came across an app called Urban Massage allowing massages in the comfort of your own home. At first, I was not sure about it as I wasn't sure it would be the same but I thought I would give it a go and I was not disappointed. It was great and I loved being in my own home and just being able to chill afterwards. No travelling required. My therapist was Kristine and she was fab so I will definitely be using the service again. I think I might make it a regular thing.
Take more photos
I've really been enjoying taking photos for the blog and for my social media. I look at things in a different way and love looking for an angle and it's so satisfying when a photo comes out well. I want to find some great locations and go out specifically to take photos.
I discovered Adobe Lightroom yesterday which is great for photo editing and getting the light just right. If you use it on your computer you have to pay, but the app is free so that works for me! If you know of any great photo editing apps or instagrammable locations please do let me know.
Be Uber Organised
Having got a lovely Kikki K planner for my birthday and a couple of gorgeous notebooks too, I now have all the tools to get everything in order. I'm generally a pretty organised person, but sometimes life can be so hectic it's tricky to get a clear head as there is just too much swimming around up there! So, I'm going to start writing things down more, planning things out, that way my mind won't be so busy and there's less chance I will forget things!
That includes this blog. I really love doing it but I'm not thinking far enough ahead. I should not be writing todays' blog post the night before it goes live but I am. Oops!! Must get better at that!
Stop Putting Things Off
As boring as it sounds I have just organised new windows for the house. Yawn! It's something I have been meaning to do ever since moving in but I've put it off and off. No more. It's all organised and I just need to focus on how much warmer it will be not how much it costs!! Focus on the positives. Focus on the positives. Focus on the Positives. (I sound like Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz!)
I don't know if you're a Friends fan but there's an episode where Phoebe tries to find a selfless good deed but soon discovers that doesn't really exist. I don't think it matters. If giving back makes you feel good and helps others too, that's a win/win in my book.
I've recently started volunteering with Glass Door at my local homeless shelter. I find it so rewarding and it's nice to feel like I'm giving back a little. Sometimes it's good to remind ourselves how lucky we are and be thankful for all the good things in our lives. As I write this, I've just got back from another evening meeting lovely people and feeling I've helped just a few people. I mainly chopped vegetables, cleared plates & served hot drinks.
Also, for the last few years I have volunteered at my old school's careers day, helping guide pupils who are deciding whether to go to uni, what to do and uni and what career they might want to do. I had no idea what I wanted to do when I was at school other than thinking I wanted to be a surgeon at one point. I would have loved to talk to people in different careers and here how they got into their fields, so I think it's a great initiative.
Visit New Places
I can be a bit of a creature of habit, especially when it comes to holidays. I love a holiday and need to try some new places. That's definitely a goal for this year. Any suggestions?
I think we can all have moments when we feel low and I've definitely experienced that this year I really feel I've turned a corner and feel so much more like me. I'm very grateful for all the support from my family, friends & followers so a big thank you to all of you.
All in all, the most important things to me are my family & friends so I want to focus on them. I also now realise I'm just as important and it's ok to prioritise myself sometimes. I'm often called a "people pleaser" which I don't think is a bad thing but it can mean I end up putting myself last far too often. I've learnt a lot about the importance of Self Love and want to make sure I continue on the path I've started on.
Live your best life & be happy in 2018 and beyond
