Petersham Nurseries, Richmond
PETERSHAM NURSERIES is a little hidden gem, with so many beautiful displays, amazing food & beautiful flowers that are just crying out to be photographed! I went a bit mad with my camera but I hope you agree it was worth it!
“A PLACE OF BEAUTY, AN EMPORIUM OF GOODS AND A CELEBRATION OF THE SEASONS.”
The Boglione family have created a business that inspires, celebrates and shares exceptional knowledge, passion and creativity. This has naturally evolved from their personal passion into a thriving business. In turn, they have established a culture and raised a ‘Petersham’ family of like-minded individuals who share their lifelong passion for organic gardening, culinary excellence, ethical and sustainable sourcing, as well as drawing out beauty in the simplest of things
On the edge of Richmond, idyllically nestled between luscious green fields & the River Thames, it really feels like you have escaped the city. There is very limited parking so it makes so much more sense to use public transport & your feet! I will always drive over taking public transport so it says a lot that even I think it's better not to drive! I actually walked from Barnes through Richmond Park which was a lovely start to the day and walked back along the river to Richmond & jumps on a bus. Easy peasy.
From the moment I arrived, I was struck with the huge variety of gorgeous plants, pots & garden ornaments on display. I wanted to buy them all but, on this occasion at least, I resisted. The staff have done a wonderful job propagating some truly outstanding plants.
This Babylon Dahlia stopped me in my tracks it was so beautiful and I definitely want to make sure I have Dahlia's in my garden next year. There are so many lovely things all around you whether you're outside or inside.
The shop is filled with so many things for the home it's difficult to know where to start so my photos will really bring it to life for you.
The Café is their main restaurant and it's incredibly popular so you really should book in advance. I took my Mum there earlier this year where we delighted in the delicious, seasonal Italian inspired food in a stunning setting. The restaurant is housed in a glasshouse with lots of wonderfully fragrant jasmine & bougainvillea everywhere.
Draped with Indian blinds and decorated with antique furniture, mirrors and paintings, not to mention some strategically placed heaters which kept us toast despite it being January, it really is a sophisticate but informal dining experience.
The Teahouse is more deli-style, offering wholesome seasonal food, complimented with fresh statement salads. Alongside the savoury offerings are hearty homemade cakes, whole leaf teas and freshly ground coffee.
On my recent, visit I had their antipasti lunch which comprised buffalo mozzarella with chill & olive oil, pork terrine & marinated artichokes, all served with some yummy homemade bread. The food is inspired by the kitchen garden as well as the Boglione family's British and Italian heritage.
I just love this place and can't wait to go back already. If you're looking for a relaxed day out you can't get much better than a visit to Petersham Nurseries; it will leave you feeling inspired, comfortably full & perhaps with a slightly lighter wallet!
‘Petersham Nurseries has created a place of calm where you can reconnect with nature, restoring a sense of balance and space. By celebrating aspects of the home, garden and food, we offer a destination that encourages you to step back and embrace a lifestyle of positive living.’
