A Holiday Designed For Mind & Body In St Lucia
WELCOME to my dream holiday. When I first heard about BODY HOLIDAY (formerly Le Sport) in St Lucia it absolutely sounded like my kind of place; their mantra is "Give us your body & we will give you back your mind" and, from personal experience, I would say that is absolutely right! I first visited St Lucia's The Body Holiday last year having heard nothing but great things about it & I now have my third visit booked. Oops! For me it's the perfect mix of everything and it is absolutely not boot camp!! Unless you want it to be.
The resort sits in a secluded cove of white sand beach at the edge of the Caribbean Sea, surrounded by tropical gardens and rainforest, BodyHoliday Saint Lucia is the ultimate getaway for body & mind. Recognised as one of the finest destination resorts and centre of well-being, there couldn’t be a more idyllic corner of the world to escape to. But what makes this holiday truly idyllic is that you get to build your trip around exactly what you want! And pretty much everything is included so no nasty extras bill at the end of your stay.
The concept encourages you to do as much or as little as you like. If you want to just sit on a sun bed all day you can or if you want to do every activity known to man that's all good too! There is a full & varied programme of activities every single day on land and sea–from yoga sessions and fitness classes, scuba diving, sailing, tennis and golf to more exotic adventures including biking the coastline, hiking the mountains or abseiling a river gorge!
I started my trip, the best way by flying with my very favourite airline and managed to the this rather cool photo that I had to share as I'm quite proud of it! Depending on the time of year, St Lucia is ether 4 or 5 hours behind UK time and this definitely works to your advantage when it comes to getting the exercise out of the way in the morning to allow much needed sun bathing time.
Don't get me wrong, I enjoy the exercise but not as much as I like to sun bathing! I like to do a class or two first thing and maybe a bit of time in the gym but by 10am I'm ready to throw everything into my Rae Feather bag, cover myself in Factor 30 and chill out on my sun bed for the next few hours before getting my butt back into gear and having a go at Water Skiing or Aquafit later in the afternoon!
Food is such an important part of a holiday in my eyes, and, when you are doing lots of exercise, even more important! There is a huge variety of food on offer, most of which is pretty healthy and tastes delicious - they still have treats & plenty of alcohol - and the best thing is you don't have to feel guilty about having any of it! There is food to satisfy every taste with menus that feature locally-sourced foods and ingredients fresh from the resort’s own organic garden.
For lunch, my favourite option is The Deli which is perfectly located right by the beach & is very casual so swimwear is dress code of choice; Healthy salads, wraps, plantain crisps with dip and smoothies are made to order and you can pick & choose the ingredients to suit you. The Mahi Mahi Ceviche is absolutely delicious! When it comes to dinner, there's a couple of restaurants that deserve a special mention...
Tao is an Asian Fusion restaurant where you have to make a reservation; each time I have visited the resort, we have been automatically had a booking made for us which makes life easy. My favourite though, is the Cariblue Windows restaurant. The breakfast buffet area is transformed into a cute restaurant with only a handful of tables. There are two sittings (7pm & 9pm) with a themed tasting menu each night. It's definitely worth checking out what's on each evening and getting your table booked as it is pretty popular. The best bit is, both of these are still included in the all-inclusive package!
And then there's the afternoon tea enjoyed whilst sitting next to the Caribbean Sea watching people play beach volleyball with a glass of prosecco in your hand. Takes some beating. It's a good idea to book your treatment times before your trip (which you can do online) so you can secure the times that suit you. I choose either to do my treatment at 4pm if I fancy afternoon tea & a sundowner or 5pm if I want to have a chill before dinner.
This is an all-inclusive luxury resort dedicated to well-being. The renowned Wellness Centre, which houses the gym & studied based classes as well as all your delicious spa treatments, is regularly voted one of the world’s best spas by Condé Nast Traveller so that's a pretty good stamp of approval!
It caters to every need with an indulgent array of time-honoured body treatments as well as state-of-the-art therapies. As part of your stay, you get to have a treatment Every.Single.Day. Total Bliss.
There is a choice of 12 inclusive treatments to choose from so all bases are covered. I love a massage so I choose to have one every day but there are lots of inclusive treatments, so the choice is yours!
I've told you so much about all the facilities but I'm sure you'd also like to hear about the rooms too.
The standard room is a Garden Room all of which have now been modernised so have the same look & fell as the photos of the room below. It's worth remembering, that whilst they are very beautifully furnished and have great showers, they do not have a balcony or terrace, have no bath and face the gardens which can be a little noisy at night with the nocturnal wildlife!
For me, a sea view is a must and the outside space comes in very handy when it comes to drying my swimwear & sweaty gym kit after I've done a bit of in-sink hand washing! I choose to stay in a Grand Luxury Ocean Front room as I love having the view and there's a great big round bath which is perfect to lounge in after a hard day's holidaying!
I would love to hear from you if you have any feedback or even a suggestion on things you would like to read, so do leave me a comment below or get in touch.
Finally, I thought I would leave you with a little time-lapse of a St Lucian sunset taken from the balcony of the room I stayed in (see video below).
Thanks for reading. Until next Sunday,...
